Emerald Coast Happenings

Things to do Emerald Coast

This Week on the Emerald Coast: BBQ, Wine, Rodeos, and Just Enough Chaos to Keep It Interesting

If you’ve been wondering whether anything is actually happening around here this week besides the usual beach walks and “should we get takeout or cook?” debates, the answer is yes. The Emerald Coast has decided to throw a little something for almost every personality type between now and Sunday.

Seaside Seeing Red Wine Festival

November 5–8 | Seaside

Starting Thursday, Seaside is doing its annual Seeing Red Wine Festival. It’s one of those weekends where you can justify drinking wine in the middle of the afternoon because it’s “cultural.” There are tastings, a Battle of the Somms, a grand tasting in Central Square, and a bubbles brunch to close it out. If your idea of a good time is standing around in nice shoes while someone explains why this particular bottle is better than the one you were perfectly happy with five minutes ago, this is your event. Just don’t wear white. Or do. I’m not your mom.

30A BBQ Festival

Friday, November 6 | 5:30–8 p.m. | Grand Boulevard, Miramar Beach

Friday night brings the 30A BBQ Festival to Grand Boulevard. Local pitmasters are competing, there’s live music, and the tickets include all-you-can-eat barbecue plus beer and wine. Translation: you can eat brisket until you question your life choices and then blame it on “supporting a good cause” (it benefits The Sonder Project). Fair warning — these things tend to sell out, so if you’re still thinking about it, you might already be too late. Or not. I don’t know your life.

Other Weekend Highlights

  • Mountainfilm on Tour (Nov 6–7, WaterColor Marina Park Amphitheater): Outdoor documentaries under the stars. Bring a chair and a light jacket, because Florida likes to pretend it’s cold after sunset.
  • Walk to End Alzheimer’s (Saturday, Nov 7, Grand Boulevard): Free community walk. A solid way to do something good before you spend the rest of the day at the wine festival or questioning whether you should have signed up for the rodeo.
  • Emerald Coast Rodeo (Nov 6–7, Northwest Florida State College, Niceville): Family-friendly chaos with cowboys, bulls, and the very real possibility that a small child on a sheep will steal the entire show. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 this week; under 3 is free.
  • Pirate Brew Fest (Saturday, Nov 7, Fudpucker’s in Destin): Free admission, pirate-themed, live music, vendors, games, and local brews. Wear a costume if you feel like it. Or don’t. The pirates aren’t actually enforcing a dress code, which is both disappointing and a relief.
  • Flutterby Arts Festival (Sunday, Nov 8, Watersound): Free family event celebrating the monarch butterflies with a parade, market, and general wholesome outdoor vibes. The kind of thing that looks good in photos and doesn’t require you to own a wine glass or a cowboy hat.

A little farther afield you’ve got the Blue Angels homecoming show in Pensacola and the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival downtown, so if you’re feeling ambitious, the weekend can stretch pretty far.

The Practical Stuff

Weather looks mostly cooperative — mild temps in the 60s and 70s with a chance of drizzle here and there, but Saturday is shaping up nicely. In other words: pack a light jacket, bring your patience for traffic around the bigger events, and decide in advance whether you’re a “wine at 2 p.m.” person or a “brisket and live music” person. Or both. No judgment.

That’s the week. Go do something fun, or stay home and scroll through everyone else’s photos of it. Both are valid Emerald Coast strategies.
